Why Choose Sursum Ascende?
“Further up, and further in!”
That’s a quote that I’m sure any homeschooled or classically educated student will recognize at once. In the last book of C.S. Lewis’ masterful Narnia series, the adventure comes to a close with Aslan inviting his people into Aslan’s Country. As Plato’s Republic instructs us, education is the chief way that we may pass through the “stable doors” of knowledge into higher and more eternal realms. Sursum Ascende is merely a purposefully repetitive translation of this quote; it means literally “climb up higher.” We aren’t just merely ascending without purpose, we have a telos, and that aim is the eternal realms of Theology—knowing our Creator better.
The Liberal Arts tradition (established by Plato) attempts to integrate all the disciplines into a coherent whole that mutually inform one another. Humanities paired with this, instructs us in worldview and how we ought to converse with the world around us.
Sursum Ascende Tutorials desires to bring this vision to high school students through the disciplines of language and Medieval humanities courses.
